One of the most visited and inviting celebrations in the province of Iloilo is the Salakayan festival of Miagao. The Salakayan Festival is held every first week of February. This year festival theme “Miagao sa Pagbag-o, Pabaskugon ang Pagtuo, Ekonomiya kag Turismo”. The Salakayan, coined from a Hiligaynon term “salakay” or “ to attack,” is a street dance-drama that merges arts, lore and customs of the town.
It tells of personal power and daily activities of the people. The main theme depicts the victorious battle waged by the locals against Muslim marauders sometime in 1754. An important historical occasion for the people of Miagao, this annual festivity attracts guests to its activity of Night with the Stars, Pamukaw, Opening Salvo, Higantes Parade, Agro-Trade Fair and Food Fair, Search for Mr. and Miss Salakayan 2014, Biking, Basketball Games, Vendor’s Nights, SIPC/MCES Alumni NIght, DepEd Night, Motocross, Balik Banwa Night, Beach Events & Games & Feriahan, Motor Show, Alumni Night (MCES) Mass, Blessing of boats, Fluvial Parade, Cultural Show & Miagao Fashion Show, Salakayan Tribes Contest 2014, Float Parade, Tribes’ Night, Mass and Agape, Car Show and Coronotion of Queen of Miagao.
