PAGASA Weather News for August 28, 2012


August 28, 2012 at 4:00 a.m. today, the center of Typhoon "IGME" {TEMBIN} was located based on satellite and surface data at 180 km North Northwest of Basco, Batanes (22.0°N, 121.2°E) with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It is forecast to move Northeast at 17 kph. Southwest Monsoon affecting Luzon. 

The islands of Batanes will experience stormy weather while Calayan and Babuyan group of islands will have rains with gusty winds and the coastal waters along these areas will be rough to very rough. The rest of Northern Luzon and Central Luzon will experience occasional rains becoming frequent over the western section of Nothern Luzon which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. 

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Southwest will prevail over the rest of Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the South to Southwest with slight to moderate seas.
